Police Release Details Of Poker Star Investigation
The San Antonio Police Department has finally laid the cards down on its investigation on poker star Richard Lee.
From as far back as February, officers has rummaged through garbage, tailed luxury cars, posed as online gamblers and looked into a string of local bank accounts and phone records in the hopes to find evidence against Lee and his accomplice. The activities were enumerated in an affidavit for a search warrant that was released Friday, Sept. 1.
Lee had been one of San Antonio's favored citizens, especially after placing sixth in the recently concluded World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas.
Lee, a.k.a. "The Chinaman," is reportedly the "biggest bookie" in San Antonio, according to a "credible source" named in the document. The affidavit names Lee as the force behind an illegal Internet gambling operation. The operation is said to be run partly from his Shavano Park home.
The alleged illegal website is www.betsbsbnow.com, and authorities are saying that the site pretends to be based offshore when it is in fact a local operation.
Lee has vehemently denied ever being engaged in bookmaking. No one has yet been charged in the investigation.
"For you people in San Antonio who know me," Lee said, "I think you can tell I am a person of integrity."
